I did babby my car alot when she was new. Now I am over 9K miles and I keep the RPM's higher for the feel of it. 3.5K to 4.5K most often unless I am passing. Then I will hit 5.5K to 6.0K just so I get it done. Afterall, it is a sports car and I like to feel the power.
I can't see changing around 2.5 like some are saying unless you are in a parking garrage and not trying to gain speed. That seems a bit slugish if you ask me. I know the Z has a great powerband and it seems to pull at any point on the RPM range. But it does not redline till 6.6 or 7K for the later years.

Besides, the car sounds great when you hit around 4K and abouve, don't you think???

I have set my shift light to 4k, so it would remind me if I am going over my gas budget

Listen to your engine it will tell you when to shift.

Not to mention you'll be keeping your eyes on the road more often.

Possibly preventing "your" accident.
