Well after using the 8500 X-50 Blue for about a week or so I'm quite pleased with the results. It's been very accurate on the highways and also in the city when those sneaky little unmarked patrol cars are sitting in a near by parking lot. Of course around town it's really hard to get an accurate reading with all the supermarkets and what not around, but if you travel the same route most of the time you can adjust and know when you should be stomping on the brakes. Plus with the upgraded equipment in the X-50 the signals strength will usually be a good indication of whether you should slow down or not. Just takes some time to get acquainted with it.

There are several cool features such as the display dimming, the auto mute, and the experienced mode which I haven't had a chance to mess with yet. It also comes in a nice case for transporting which was nice. It's nothing small though but there are lots of accessories. I bought the direct wire module so I could eliminate the spirally cord strung from my dash to the power outlet practically in the back seat (if we had back seats). Anyway if you're thinking of getting it you'll be very happy. Well atleast I am Hope this helps a little.

What I was told is that that 8500 is a great detector and definitely worth it. But if I didn't mind the extra cost, I should get the V1. They both offer free software upgrades, but the V1 also has free hardware upgrades (I don't know how often they happen though).

I saw a pretty cool stealth setup for the V1 over on that other forum. Does anyone have pics of one of the 8500? I've been in the market for a radar detector for about a month now, and I like the idea of a stealth setup better than a visible detector.

I haven't had any close calls yet but I'm sure there will be some soon enough. I'm still trying to get comfortable with it so I tend to be cautious about my speed.

I just hard wired mine today. I was going to try and run it up to the visor but didn't want to hassle with the windshield pillar and all. I just ran the wire up behind the center dash gauges. Everything worked out pretty good. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a pic posted if anyone wants to see the final result.

DiRN, if you've got the extra money to throw around, first send some to me and then go ahead and buy the V1. It's great that they both offer upgrades but even better that the V1 has hardware upgrades as well. It's really hard to say when a hardware upgrade would be necessary. I guess it would depend on how well the software upgrades were. No way of knowing I guess. Decisions, decisions eh?

The extra money to throw around? I wish. I have such a long list of stuff I want (both for my Z and my home electronics) that it's starting to get depressing. Haha. If you wouldn't mind, can you throw up that pic you mentioned when you have a chance? No rush.
