Zaino Application Process

From Nissan 350Z & 370Z Wiki

(Redirected from Zaino Application)

Ok, I know a few out that use Zaino. The basic stuff is right from the Zaino webpage on how to apply it and give your car an awesome shine with some of my personal experience. I put the product numbers for what comes with the Total Protection Kit.

Contents

Items Needed

  • Zaino Total Protection Show Car Kit (recommended, cheaper to get as a kit)
  • 100% cotton towels. Preferably microfiber. I recommend DF towels.

Process

1. Clay Bar

The Z-18 Clay bar. If this is the first time you are applying Zaino, I would recommend you use the claybar first. This removes any contaminates from the paint and leaves the surface ready for the first layer. Use 1/2 capful of Z-7 Car Wash to 12 ounces of water. I use a spray bottle for the mix. Shake it up and spray the area to be Clayed. Just make sure to keep the surface area lubricated while using the ClayBar. Be careful not to drop the claybar, it does get a bit slick and if dropped, it pretty much is ruined.

2. Rewash

After this is done, use a bit of Dawn liquid to remove the residue that may be left over from the claybar. Then rewash wiht the Z-7 carwash. Rinse well and make sure the car is dry and no waterspots remain. Once the claybar and dawn is done, you shold not have to do this again. Just wash the car as normal with the Z-7 carwash.

3. Apply Z-5

Ok you are ready for the first layer. I started with the Z-5 with the ZFX additive. Use as directed but you really do not need much polish to do a complete car. I can mix a full ounce for 2 cars. Do not apply too thickly, either. If done right you should barely see it going on, it will give a slight haze in appearance.

4. Allow to Dry

Allow to dry for at least an hour. Humidity and temperature affect the time for drying. To test if it is ready to come off just rub your finger on a section. If it comes right off without smudging, it is ready.

5. Apply Z-6

After you have removed the Z-5, you should then apply the Z-6 Gloss enhancer. This also helps when you get ready to apply the next coats of Zaino and should be used this way, or for a touch up.

6. Second coat of Z-5

If you have time and the weather is nice enough, you can apply a second coat of the Z-5. Usually 3 coats will remove pretty much any noticable swirl marks. If the temp is under 70 degrees though, No more than 1 coat is recommended in a 24 hour period.

Step back and admire the shine. It is a bit lengthy but I think it is worth it in the long run. Each layer you apply the color and shine gets better and better.
