Nissan 350z Project - Leather Seats

From Nissan 350Z & 370Z Wiki

test

I received my leather seat covers by surprise. I spoke with a rep (Jeremy) from the company to inquire on the status of my cover order and was told that they were in-work but almost finished. I had them on my doorstep the next day! It was like Christmas in July.

I spoke with several companies and I really liked the flexibility of Leatherseats.com. They are very willing to create new interior pieces and do custom work for their customers. The company did not have a pattern for the shift boot, so I sent them my shift boot to create their design, and they can now accommodate shift boot orders from other 350z owners. I am currently working with them to come up with some other leather interior solutions and will keep you posted on the development.

Quality
The first thing I noticed when I received these leather seat covers was the quality of leather. Many people say that factory leather is best, but after seeing and touching both, this is hands down better quality leather. Seeing pictures of these seats do not do them much justice. The leather is fairly thick and has a good texture to it. I had my seats done in white leather with black contrasting double stitching. (LeatherSeats.com logo will not be included on your seats and is for promotional purpose only)

I have seen people with other various brands of seat covers and noticed the leather was wearing quickly in certain areas. I will keep you posted on the durability and longevity of these seat covers. The leather on these covers are fairly thick. My car is a daily driver and I spend a lot of time driving, so I will be able to detect any premature wear.

The fitment is near perfect, and all the stitching looks factory. The leather is cut in the same pattern as the factory seats and fits just the same. My seats also include side airbags, which they accommodated nicely. The craftsmanship of the seat covers is outstanding.

Installation
I did the installation of these seat covers myself along with a friend (you will definitely need 2 people for this job). They sent me the clips and tools that I would need to complete the installation and off I went. Installation is hard work. It isn’t too difficult, just hard (it will give you a good workout). It is a good idea to pull the seats out and bring them inside where it is cool to begin working on them. A lot of pulling, tugging, and stretching is required to get these on as they are a near perfect fit. My whole body was sore the next day.

To begin, you must remove the stock seat covers (cloth or leather). To do so, you will need to unzip the back sides and pull the covers up and forward to reveal some metal clips holding the covers to the seats. Use some strong cutters or a Dremel tool to cut these clips in order to remove the stock covers. You will have to remove the headrest by pushing the release button, and stretch the covers over the head rest insertion points (black plastic tabs). Also, for the passenger seat you will need to remove the release lever on the back side (2 screws and a wire).

Once the stock covers are off, you can begin fitting the new leather covers. This requires some strong hands and some patience. We stretched the leather over the seats and made small incisions to stretch over the headrest insertion points and seat release lever. We clipped the centers of the seat covers on first to get the proper alignment (using the supplied metal clips and pliers). We then proceeded down the sides and around the bottom. Once you do a few clips it becomes easier to do, and the process speeds up.

The installation took the two of us about 3 hours to completely install the leather on two seats. It was a lot of work, but time well spent. I believe shops charge a few hundred dollars to do this kind of work. I would too, but I would say an installation like this could be done by most anyone. As long as you are detail oriented and have a friend to help this is not that difficult of an installation.

Value
Leatherseats.com is priced competitively to other online retailers of leather interiors. I believe they offer group buy pricing as well. I am working with them to develop new items which are not currently offered by anyone else. Stay tuned for new products coming in the near future.

I will have those that have seen these seats in person post comments on them.
