How to install a GPS system
From Nissan 350Z & 370Z Wiki
Here's a Tutorial for Aftermarket GPS units installation, mounting on Driver's side windshield (For 350Z 2003-2005 models).
This EASY Tutorial will work for any Aftermarket GPS or Electronic component (See Radar Detector or else.) that goes on the Windshield and goes back to the 12V adapter behind the seats, if you don't want to see the wires hanging right beside you. For the purpose of this one tutorial, we'll do it for a Garmin's GPS product, the Nüvi 350.
Estimated time of process: 30-45min.

Materials and Tools
- Philips Screwdriver
- Electrical Tape (if needed)
- Female/Male 12v adapter if needed if your wires aren't long enough to reach the back female adapter while doing *the wire's routing.
The Procedure
1st step
- Get into 4th gear for easier way to do the following steps:
- Now remove dash console around shift boot by reaching in and under edge of hole around the shift boot and pulling up.
- Lift the console up and gently turn over on towards the passenger side. Be careful of the white ribbon cable.
- This is reasonably delicate and you don't want to twist or break it. So disconnect it by pressing up / down on the little clips of his casing and it will disengage.
2nd step
- Move the front and passenger seats forward.
- Unscrew the side bolts of the console. (One on the driver side and an other on the passenger side.)
- Take the "ashtray compartment" off, on the top of the console, you'll see another bolt there.
- Pull off the driver's side of the console so you can route your wires there.
- Push back the Driver's seat into his original position.
3rd step
- Install/Mount on the suction cup your unit (Gps unit) for it's ideal position (most of the time, the bottom left of the windshield oriented towards you.
- Route your power wire following the routing on the following diagram (Image linked with this page).
- Run your wire behind the moving dash console.
- Take it from behind it and run it under the panel on the top of your legs...Run it towards the middle console, so it's does a conceal installation. (You can use some Electrical tape there if you want it fixed under so it doesn't hang...
- Push the wire behind the middle console panel, so it appears under the White A/C Unit Box. This is here where you can put your Male/Female Adapter if you don't have enough wire lenght to reach the back plug. If you put the male/female there, you can hide it under the white A/C Unit Box.
- Route the wire under the console so it can run on the left side and push it towards the back.
- Let the wire come out from under and goes out by the really end of the console. Towards the back. So you can only see a little 2 inches wires going with a Male Adapter to your lighter plug.
- If your Male Lighter plug is too big to go under the console and do your routing. Try to do the following steps, but in REVERSE. So only the smallest plug will do the routing. *
4th step
- Finally. Plug everything together. And test if your unit is getting 12V power.
- If everything is working. It's time to get everything back in place.
- Reinstall the White Ribbon Cable. Push the dash console of the Shift booth back into his original place.
- Push the middle console so you can reinstall the middle bolt where the ashtray compartment is.
- Install the bolt.
- Move the front and passenger seats forward again.
- Push the console down, so you can see your holes to reinstall the bolts on both sides.
- Install both bolts.
5th and final step
- Push Back both seats so everything is back in place.
- Check if any wires is hanging or else.
- Start your GPS. If everything is running fine...
