test
- Note: The blower is being redesign
by HKS Japan due to
relability issues with the Rotrex
unit. A demonstration unit was displayed at SEMA IAS 2005
in Philidelphia. ETA was not given. Currently the kit is not
avaiable in the US. It may not be available for sale in the US due
to patent infringements.
The HKS Rotrex Supercharger Kits for the 350Z are the latest in
forced induction systems for the aftermarket. The centrifugal type
supercharger features a unique traction drive, with a closed oil
circulation system. The traction drive utilizes fixed ratio
planetary rollers that are more efficient then traditional
gear-wheels. Because the planetary rollers do not have teeth like
traditional gear-wheels noise is decreased and reliability is
increased. The closed oil circulation system cycles a
specially-formulated Traction Oil that lubricates and cools the
supercharger, dramatically increasing longevity and reliability.
The Traction Oil is cooled through a liquid to air oil cooler
included with each kit.
All HKS Rotrex Supercharger Kits are developed as complete
bolt-on systems. For certain applications HKS will include a
front-mount air-to-air intercooler, Super Mega Flow intake, Bypass
Valve, additional injectors, upgraded fuel pump and S/C Fuel
Computer. Also included with each kit is a high-performance cast
aluminum bracket which has been precisely engineered to reduce
noise and vibration.

The HKS Rotrex kit for the 350Z is built around the latest
Rotrex roller-driven superchargers. HKS has swapped out the
compressor in favor of their own turbine housing and wheel.

Potential Upgrades
Potential upgrades for this kit are:
- Pulley Upgrade
- Available from Rotrex USA Distributor Wheel to Wheel
Power.(http://www.w2wpowertrain.com/pc-30-64-rotrex-supercharger-pulley-100mm--110mm.aspx)
- A new pulley is not yet available from HKS directly. However
from extensive research it has been found that the smaller pullies
may be obtained directly from Rotrex. Pullies are offered in
various diameters to achieve the user's desired boost level. As
always, tuning is necessary when changing boost levels. The
recommended pulley size is 100MM. This will bring the blower RPMs
to its limit on the stock redline. Upgraded redlines will overspin
the blower. Potential detriment to the blower through overspinning
is not documented. A larger intercooler is needed (http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=725). HKS part
#17300-272287 is most likely the appropriate choice.
- Intercooler
- Depending on your power goals, it is possible to upgrade to a
larger intercooler that will flow more
air. Some custom piping will be necessary, but this upgrade has
already been accomplished by HKS themselves. It remains to be found if
HKS will
offer a stronger supercharger
package in the future with a larger intercooler system.
- EMU
- The HKS Rotrex unit comes with the HKS F-Con SZ engine
management system. This is an advanced piggyback style Key_Term:EMU designed with a conservative
tune in mind. It is a direct plug and play unit that comes with an
external harness terminated with OEM style connectors. This unit
may only be tuned by a certified HKS Pro dealer. However it is
possible and easy to change out the F-Con SZ for another engine
management system with readily available support such as the
TurboXS UTEC or Greddy
e-Manage Ultimate. It uses a map sensor for accurate accounting of
boost. This unit also has timing control with no risk of damage to
the coils when the key is left in the "ON" position (a la
Emanage/Emanage Ultimate). The unit can be swapped out for a HKS
F-Con Pro for complete standalone engine management with the
addition of an inlet air temp sensor.
- Injectors
- Two addon injectors are include with the HKS
supercharger. This was done to achieve CARB certification which prevents
changing of the stock injectors. The injectors reside inside the
OEM intake manifold.
Replacing all 6 injectors with larger ones will require a retune,
and is only necessary if changing to a smaller pulley (higher boost
pressure).
