Introduction

This installation guide is for the Invidia G200 dual exhaust system for the Nissan 350z. I used Toykilla's instructions in his Borla dual exhaust system install Tutorial:Borla_Dual_Exhaust_Install since to quote from his article .. "... the stock exhaust removal section will be the same no matter what exhaust you decide to install.

Tools and Materials

This is Toykilla's list of stuff needed -.

  • Various sockets: 10mm,12mm,14mm,15mm - There was an occasion when I could have used a deep-well socket. Didn't have one . used an open end wrench instead
  • Socket wrench
  • Torque wrench
  • Screw drivers
  • Adjustable pliers
  • High Temp gasket sealant - Toykilla used this because of the way that Borla clamps together. The Invidia uses flanges and gaskets so I didn't use it
  • WD-40 lubricant - YES! Verry necessary for getting the hanger bars out of the rubber .. umm .. hanger thingies
  • Gloves - Prob should have .. ended up with scrapes and cuts ..
  • Work or throw away clothes - Used mechanics coveralls
  • Floor jack
  • Jack Stands (4)

Procedure - Remove stock exhaust

Like I said, I followed Toykilla's procedure for taking every thing down.

1 - Remove Muffler
Quote: Needed: adjustable pliers, WD40, screwdriver, floor jack, towel - Used the pliars and the WD40
Follow Toykilla's procedure. I didn't use a jack .. just supported the muffler with my knees. Those of you less limber may want to use his jack and towel procedure.

fig 1.1 - Here is the stock muffler. Notice that there are three hangers
fig 1.2 - Hangers 1 and 2 are on the rear and a pain to get to. Hanger 3 is to the right front.
fig 1.3 - Close up of Hanger 3. Notice that mushroom head. This is what you have to push through the grommet with the pliars. A REAL PAIN!!
fig 1.4 - Hanger 3 on the car. I have sprayed WD-40 and have been trying to push the hanger out of the grommet - to no great success. Then .. I noticed the bolt. AH HA!!
fig 1.5 - Bolt comes out .. and hanger drops. The rear hangers are held on by three bolts .. you can see them but can't get to them .. looks like removing the rear bumper would allow that.
fig 1.6 - The stock exhaust out of the car

The followng removal process I basically followed what Toykilla had said .. with somewhat less cussin' and such since he had figured out how to get it to work .. ha!

Prep Invidia

2 - 'Prep'
Toykilla says that "The first thing of any big installation is to make sure you have all the parts. Nothing is worse than getting you car torn apart and 3/4 done, then realizing you are missing a critical component to finish the job. I took the exhaust and laid everything out, and even matched it with the parts list and drawing."

Ok.

fig 2.1 - Here's the boxes. Like Toykilla .. don't have any photos of the pieces in the box .. was too much like Christmas.
fig 2.2 - Invidia G200 layed out.
fig 2.3 - Invidia G200 as you see on dealer's website. One photo does not look like the other!!
fig 2.4 - The Invidia G200 I layed out is on the left. The Invidia G200 (sic?) that is being sold on the web is shown on the right. Go figure.

Install Invidia

3 - 'Install'

I'm not going to go into any detail with the actual install. It took no longer then it took to spin the ratchet. I connected up everything leaving the bolts loose .. took a whole 10 minutes perhaps. Tightened all the bolts took another 10 or 15 minutes. The longest time was spent when I forgot two bolts when putting on the large bracket and had to take it off and put it back.

fig 3.1 - Invidia muffler. I have slid the front gromment on. Notice that the hanger on the Invidia is bent down at the end. This made an immense difference when putting the darn thing on. THANK YOU INVIDIA!

fig 3.3 = Bolting to the Muffler

Finished

The car is happy. I can see her smiling.
