Custom Trunk Mat (Tutorial)
From Nissan 350Z & 370Z Wiki
One of the reasons I bought the Z over the other sports cars out there was its ability to carry the large flat data center servers I use at work. The problem I had was the standard felt mat and optional trunk carpet were far to slippery for my servers, even my laptop bag would slide from side to side during my morning commute. Something had to be done.
I went to OSH and bought 5 feet of their 36†ribbed rubber mat material, it cost about $30. Make sure it is rubber (it will smell and feel like rubber), I saw what appeared to be the same stuff at Home Depot but it was some kind of vinyl and did not have the grip.
Lay the rubber out flat with the back facing up then place the original Z felt mat on top of it with the back side facing up. Try to center the felt so the lines on the top side will look straight across the trunk. With a ball point pen, trace the outline of the felt mat onto the rubber being careful not to let the felt mat move while tracing, sort of like kindergarten. Toss the felt mat aside and with some good scissors, cut along the line, like in first grade. How well you follow the line will determine how good it looks when you are done.
For best fit, I put the rubber mat on top of the stock felt mat but no longer use the optional trunk carpet. My car smelled like rubber for about four days but now smells like a new car again.
