2007 Infiniti G35 Sedan Makes World Debut at NYIAS [April. 12, 06]
NEW YORK (April 12, 2005) – Infiniti today unveiled the all-new 2007 Infiniti G35 Sedan at the 2006 New York International Auto Show. The second generation of Infiniti’s top-selling vehicle was introduced by Mr. Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., at a media event in Javits Center. The new G is scheduled to go on sale in November 2006.
“This new 2007 G35 takes up where the original began – with a clear, unique vision,†said Mr. Ghosn. “It breaks new ground in luxury, styling, performance, quality and craftsmanship.â€
The G’s new exterior continues the previous model’s vibrant design theme with clean, athletic styling. Key design elements include sculpted grille blades, iconic headlights and taillights and crisp character lines.
Inside, the all-new interior design is refined, inviting and offers a new level of modern warmth and hospitality. The G interior also offers unique features such as the white-and-violet Fine Vision gauge illumination and high-touch, textured aluminum-alloy trim with “Washi†(traditional Japanese handmade paper) patterning.
Available advanced technologies include RearView Monitor, a touch screen navigation system with available real-time traffic and the audiophile-quality Infiniti Studio on Wheels™ by Bose®, combining the industry’s first 3-way front door speaker array using 10-inch woofers with an audiophile quality head unit incorporating a 24-bit Burr Brown® Digital Audio Converter.
The heart of the G35 remains its advanced engine, platform and drivetrain, anchored by the “next generation†of the award-winning VQ-series 3.5-liter DOHC V6, now rated at an estimated 300-plus horsepower*. The standard V6 is mated to a choice of a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching or close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. Solid magnesium paddle shifters are standard on the G35 Sport A/T model.
The G’s second generation FM (Front Mid-ship) platform features a 4-wheel independent suspension with lightweight aluminum components and improved body stiffness. The 2007 G35 is also offered with Infiniti “intelligent†all-wheel drive system.
Comfort and convenience features include standard Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, available Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), wood trim and Intelligent Cruise Control with Preview Braking.
Mr. Ghosn also provided an update on Infiniti business issues, including the continuing expansion of Infiniti as a globally recognized luxury brand. Infiniti is currently fully established in Taiwan, Korea and the Middle East, with preparations underway to launch in China and Russia.

Infiniti assures us that it’s all new, but from some angles the new G35 doesn’t look it. Built on a modified and second-generation version of the current FM architecture that underpins the 2006 G35, Nissan 350Z, and Infiniti FX45, the refreshed platform will likely boast the typical increases in structural rigidity and weight. Under the hood is a revised VQ-series 3.5-liter V-6 that Infiniti says is 80 percent new, and although final figures are not yet available, it should put out at least 300 horses. A new interior promises to right the wrongs of the previous-generation’s plasticky look. We expect Infiniti to hold the line on pricing as the G35 is an outstanding value in the crowded $30,000-sports-sedan segment. Look for the new G35 in showrooms this fall.

Lexus might sell more cars, but the new G35 is proof that Infiniti has a better handle on styling than Lexus does. Sedans and coupes from the Nissan-owned marque have always appeared prettier, more cohesive, and more aggressive —and the 2007 version of Infiniti’s 3-series fighter is no exception. The redesigned four-door arrives in November, and although the coupe won’t be redone until next year, it’s almost certain to carry over a great deal of the sedan’s styling cues.
The newest iteration of the G35 is again available with rear- or all-wheel drive; power is transmitted through either a five-speed automatic with Infiniti’s Adaptive Shift Control programming, or a close-ratio six-speed manual. Unlike BMW’s 3-series, however, the G35 offers a standard rear viscous limited-slip differential on all sport package cars, regardless of transmission chosen. It may not be enough to sway the most enthusiastic of drivers, but it’s a welcome feature on almost any sport sedan, and a step in the right direction.
Under the hood, the fourth generation of the Nissan/Infiniti VQ-series 3.5-liter V-6 boasts a bumped up compression ratio, a redline that’s 900 rpm higher, and refined intake and exhaust systems. Power subsequently rises to an estimated 300-plus hp. The four-wheel multi-link independent suspension has also been redesigned, and a new speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering gear comes along for the ride.
Inside, the G35’s interior has been the subject of much attention, with a much warmer approach prevailing. The aluminum-alloy accents throughout the cabin have been softened in texture, and the overall feeling approaches the dedicated, “driver’s cockpit†feeling of earlier BMW and Volkswagen offerings. A claimed audiophile-quality Bose stereo and real-time XM radio traffic reports are also available.
The G35 represents almost one in every three Infinitis sold in the United States, and is by far the company’s volume leader. The previous-generation four-door was one of the few cars that spoke to the German competition on truly level ground, and it provided a combination of interior quality and dynamic response that few Japanese sedans had approached before. Hopefully, the Infiniti’s inherent goodness won’t be diluted in the attempt to further refine the car.
