Chris,
I'm signed up for Flat out Friday on May 26th for Group 2. Can't wait to get back to Beaverun. I just got back from a NASA event at Mid-ohio and had a blast. I was signed of to solo by the end of the day but it started to rain heavily on a freshly paved track so I took off. Nowhere near as much track time as the FOF format you guys run. My new NISMO brake pads worked great with no noticeble fade, I also removed all the dust shields to help them stay cooler. Look forward to seeing you at the track.
Later, Jonathan
AKA the guy in the Lemans Sunset Z with severe brake fade at the mini Z meet.

Chris,
Hope you'll be there for Flat Out Friday on Sept 29th. I've got a set of Carbotech X8 race pads and some better rubber (Kuhmo Ecsta MX, 245 F 255 R). So I'm looking forward to testing them out. I've been running the Nismo R tune pads and they have lasted 3 track days. However that's with me getting out of the throttle early at the end of straights and conserving them as much as possible. By the way I'm bringing my mom along for her first driving school of any kind. She's driving an '04 HEMI Charger R/T. I'm doing as much as I can to prime her with info like braking in a straight line, looking ahead, passing procedures, flags etc... I think she'll do fine but I'm hoping she gets a good in car instructor as well. Hint, Hint. So If you see a lady in a black Charger please help her out.

See you at the track,
Jonathan

Hey Jonathan. Good to see you out there again. Sorry that I wasn't able to jump in the Z with you.. I had 4 clients that I had to entertain.

I hadn't read this post from you until today. So I regret not being able to get in the Charger. I doubt I would have been able to anyway as I was pretty well booked for the sessions.

I'll be sure to receive notifications from this thread from now on.. for some reason I didn't get any.

Best Regards!
Chris

Chris,
No problem. I had a blast. The Carbotechs were great. Zero fade. I just need to learn the new limits of my braking. I had a little off in 10 but at low speed and I kept it straight. It took me a couple sessions to feel comfortable really standing on the brakes but I figured it out. By the end of the day I had passed a Viper twice, a BMW M coupe and I owned an STI for 3 laps but the prick wouldn't let me by even with the flag pointed at him. I eventually just rolled through the pit. The highlight was playing cat and mouse with the lady from Wisconsin in that M coupe. She has 20 years track experience and was a great sport. When your at speed with an equally matched car/driver doing things the right way, words can't express how fun that is. Sorry if my mom was holding you and jinx up too much in group 1, I think she improved throughout the day though. She ended up working with the track owners daughter and they hit it off great. Although she said it was one of the best days of her life I don't think my mom will be back until she gets a lighter/nimbler car. Look forward to hitting more track days next year.
See Ya, Jonathan

P.S. It would be great if Beaverun had a forum on thier web site so I could post back and forth with all the usual suspects I see there. If you get a chance at a staff meeting bring it up. Thanks

Off in 10? Did you go off in 10 the last time with the Hawk HPS as well? We really need to get together out there.. can't have you doing that too often. As soon as you are straight coming out of 9, you need to get on the brakes if you are unsure of things. There is no reason to be going into 10/11 that hot. Slow in at 10.

lol.. your mom wasn't holding back any of the cars I was in. All that matters is that she had fun.

FWIW, the track owner doesn't have a daughter...

There's one more at the end of October if you are game. Let me know ahead of time if you are coming out and I'll do my best to go out with you.

Yeah, that's the same place. Not my brakes falt this time though. My instructor, Mort? Thought I could brake 2 car lengths later than I was. I should have listened to my gut because he was wrong.

She had a blast, she's looking at trading in her sebring for a sports car.

My bad, it was Nancy Seiler, Earl Seiler's daughter instructing my Mom. They worked great together.

I think I'm done for the year. I definetly want some help though. I'm getting alot faster and smoother but have lots to learn. Mort graded me at 8/10 on all categories after the third session and cleared me to solo. I need to talk to you about some Z specific stuff. Like do you shift to 5th in the straights. I'm bouncing off the rev limiter in 4th before the end of the front straight, is it worth it to shift? I have the same problem on the back straight but that's just a good reason to slow before 9 and go into 10 slower.
