Running lean or fuel cut issues?

I am new to the nissan world but have had many other modified cars subaru sti Honda s2000 etc... the 2003 nissan 350z I bought is mechanically stock besides a cat back exhaust. For some reason the vehicle seems to fall on its face and experience what I believe to be fuel cut if I try to give it anything more that 50% throttle. I have no check engine light. Car idles find and drives fine but if you try to have even a little fun with it she's not having it. Any idea? Just hoping someone has gone through this and can point me in the right direction. If it were heavily modified I'd just consult with a tuner and get a retune but everything engine wise is factory. Not sure where to start. Help! Lol

How about some additional info on your 2003 Z.
Model?
How many miles on the car?

What your car is doing can mean a lot of things.

Agreed^^ we need more info to provide any advice. In general, the VQ35DE is a robust engine and has no known issues running lean, or having fuel cutoff without some significant electrical issues.

Hi guys. It's a 2003 base model. I had to unplug the battery tonight while working on it and just took it out and drove after and it was running better... the issue has been intermittent unfortunately and it's not as bad as complete fuel cut but it has been very noticeable that it just falls on its face... also something weird happened the other day where I tried to step on it in 1st leaving a stop light and it and it did feel like complete fuel cut and I heard a pop in the exhaust I had to let off the gas for a second and then continue on slowly through the rpms... I'm at a loss with this thing.

OK,base model.

How many miles on the clock?
To give any "long distance" could be's,the mileage would help as
there are several things that are common to go out/need replacing
at certain miles.
Any exhaust odor?
Running stock cats?
Sensors(especially cam position)replacement is common.
You are running premium fuel,right?93 octane stuff.

Hi yes running 93 octane and there is 111k on the vehicle. No check engine but you're saying at a certain mileage maybe some sensors that deal with timing may have to be replaced?

111k miles ,thanks.

Hard to tell if it is a "timing" issue.

Sounds more like fuel starvation(injectors?).
Clogged cats ...

As mentioned, cam position sensors are common to go on
03-04 Z's around 70-80k miles. They can be a bit elusive to check
since you will not get a code. Have you changed plugs? What about
your coil packs? Any oil noted in the plug valleys?

I'd get your Z on a machine to get good diagnostics.
Take it to a Nissan shop or perhaps you have a tuner nearby that
works on VQ engines.

I'd think a 03 car with those miles may have had several owners.
Hard to say how the car was maintained.

Good luck

Hey guys I just got a service engine light as well and its code P0171 Bank 1 System running too lean. I only have 27,600 miles on my 2006 Nissan 350z Roadster GT. The previous owner only drove the car on the weekends and had taken it out a total of 4 times this year so far after the winter for only 10 mile drives and then it would sit. Would this be a MAF problem? Or an O2? The car is in immaculate condition but i think i drove it more and turned it on and off more in one day than he has this whole year.

Hard to say with that description.
What makes you think it's a fuel cut rather than an ignition cut?
I would have assumed the pop from the exhaust was excess fuel
If you want to tinker with it your self, check the fuel pump and the spark plugs and the coils - after that you need to take it to a service centre
