Default Blown VQ35DE

So my mates wife was being helpful and put some oil into his Nissan Murano because it had been burning oil. But she didnt know how to do it. So she got the servo attendant to do it. And he did. Mineral oil. Full. To the brim.

So now the Murano engine is apparently corked and the stealership says (probably fair enough) they wont do it under warranty and its $20k for a new engine (not fair enough). Supposedly there are no used Murano engines in Australia atm.

Its a 2008 Nissan Murano Ti - which I think runs a VQ35DE which Wikipedia tells me is (presumably in different tunes with slightly different configurations) in the 350Z, Altima, Maxima, Pathfinder and Renault Espace.

So Im thinking Jap imports - a front cut or just an engine. Ill get him to call prestigemotorsports. Any other suggestions? Vehicle is on the Gold Coast so also if anyone could recommend any performance shops that have experience rebuilding VQ35DE that would be good.

Thank you

BM

the main difference you will have to be careful with is the location of the engine mounts as the front wheel drive VQ35DE's are located on a different spot on the block than the rear wheel drive VQ35DE equipped cars.

True enough. There is a bloke on the Gold Coast that has something I THINK? Troll the Gold Coast Yellow pages for nissan wreckers or something. This guy imports. CnJ Motorsport in Brisbane have been inside a few VQ35DE's now so they are quite familiar, do a good job and are very open when dealing with them. You have an '08 Murano so it may well be a HR? I have a heap of brand new bits but they are from revup so you would have to check it out as the HR is different and parts may not interchange..$20k is steep when you can get good s/h DE's for 2-3k. I couldn't see a Murano being overly popular for after market so you should be able to get something pretty cheap.

Good to know about the engine mounts.

Latest information I have from my friend is lots of sludge, carbon build up and leaks but no actual block damage so we may be in rebuild land. Ill make sure the rebuilder is happy before anything gets bought but would make it easier if we could pull internals from a Maxima or something. Apparently he has had a mechanic in there already so Ill get the report off him.

Thank you for mentioning CNJ - didnt realise they did modern Nissans. Might have a chat to them. Also found Nisswreck in SA through Google.

20k! Geesus, i reckon you could go close to getting a VQ built with Cosworth Parts shipped over. Can the engine be re-built? May be you can get some one like Courtesy Nissan to ship you the parts over from the US, the dollar has been favourable lately.
Give it a try Murano Parts (Z50) 2003-2007 :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com
Here is a Murano forum also Nissan Murano - Nissan Murano Forums
Good luck

if it still drives, drive it to the dealership and trade it in before it goes on a new one, it may be the cheaper option

these stories never cease to amuse me - PITA about the money involved.

My wife worked a servo long ago...a guy pulls in and buys 1L oil for top-up, jumps in the car, out again for another, back in car and another and so on.

After a while the mechanics were curious as now the car won't start. Apparently the guy kept turning the ignition (not start) to see if the oil light was off to let him know it had enough. Yeah it had enough alright

PS. as it was employee of a car service place offering 'professional' assistance is there any liability that applies??

Why doesn't your mate look at suing the petrol station?
