I just got my new Z last week, and it recently started having a problem. Every time I turn it on, it'll rev up to like 1k RPM then it will go down and then turn off.
The only way I can get it to stay is crank it then give it some gas while in park, then it will keep it in idle. But it happens every time I have to turn my car on. Does anyone know what causes this. I don't know anything about cars either =/ |

Just a long shot, but look up the procedure to reset the idle air control valve. It regulates idle air flow to the engine, and I know my Miata's acted differently at startup and once warm. If it's lost it's mind it could be either not reading any air or reading way to much air. The upside is if I remember correctly it's something you can do in your garage. Should be in the manual and this page might be worth performing.

If your Z has a lot of miles, the throttle body may need to be cleaned.

I have a friend coming over tomorrow to check it out cause he knows about this kind of stuff. but in the mean time will it hurt my car if i have to rev it up to keep it going. or is it ok to do that. |
