Rear Hatch (Trunk) Mechanism

Hi Everyone,

I looked at a few threads on here and that helped me get my golf clubs out of the trunk as the mechanism has stopped working.

You cant use the fob or the button - and when you try both, there is still a noise coming from the catch like it is trying to open - I am just wondering what part is broken.

I looked on Courtesy Nissan and they show most of the assemblies...

Anyone had to replace this part? Anyone have this similar problem?

Thanks
Chad

So your saying it doesnt pop? Its the springs Sir.. Not the mechanism itself.. Trust me.. I have had the same problem.. Buy new Hatch shocks..

No, I dont think its the shocks... but I know what you mean.
When I use the manual release in the truck under the strut bar, the trunk pops fine. But when you use the fob or the trunk release button you dont hear the actuator do anything to even try and release the trunk.
Before when the button and fob were working better, you could hear the trunk pop and if you werent close to it and grabbed it right away it would stay locked - now it doesnt even pop.

Thats why I think its that part (motor?) that is causing the problems.

Anyone else have to change this part?

Maybe your remote needs a new battery? Or did you try both of your remotes first?

I had a similar issue. The hatch would "pop", but you couldn't open it. Try applying a lifting force at the crack between the hatch and the body while pushing the button. That let me get into the hatch area.

The fix was to replace a broken spring unit -- not the lift strut. There are two black cylindrical shaped enclosed springs -- one on each side on the hatch near where the lift struts mount. Look to see if one has fallen out because of a broken mounting point. One spring unit alone doesn't provide enough lifting force to clear the latch.

Good luck!

Thanks guys... I guess its hard to explain - and I know people have had issues with the shocks and springs for the trunk mechanism... so thats what it sounds like.

I know the black spring things (people used to say put pennies inside to give them some extra spring) and I have also removed the weight from the back of my hatch (there is another post with that information in it).

In this case the mechnism does not make the same amount of "noise" as it used to, and it does not release the latch enough.

Both the FOB and the trunk button both work - but the noise that the mechanism makes now is not the same as before... almost like I can tell its not disengaging at all inside, regardless of the hatch popping.

Before this happened I would have to make sure I grabbed the hatch quickly so it didnt latch after I pressed the button, so I know what you guys are talking about.

I am going to tear it apart and see what the deal is.

If it is at least making some noise, the actuator itself has probably not failed - maybe just an alignment/connector type issue. GL - let us know how it turns out?

Yep, sounds like something related to the actuator is not right. Either it is misaligned somehow like Perf mentioned or the actuator is "dying". Let us know what you find out!
